A few weeks a go we ran a poll on Twitter asking people how they think we should continue our High Point Ireland Photo competitions. Out of the 20 people who voted in the poll, twelve (60%) wanted to see the competition being run “Quarterly, just for fun”. Seven (35%) wanted to see it being held “Yearly, for an award”, and one (5%) thought the photo competitions should be “Discontinued”.
With 95% in favour of continuing the competitions, we immediately ruled out the possibility of discontinuing it. Instead, we have decided to meet the needs of the majority and run the four High Point Ireland Photo competitions each year as we have been doing, but on a “just for fun” basis. The four submission days will continue to be held on 20th February, 20th May, 20th August and 20th November each year.
However, more than a third of voters in the poll would like to see us offering an annual photography award, and we feel that their wishes should not be ignored. Since the poll took place, we have decided that the four quarterly High Point Ireland Photo competitions will also serve as preliminary rounds in a brand new High Point Photo of the Year award.
The most popular photo in each of the four quarterly competitions will be progress to a final round of voting on Twitter between Christmas and New Year. From those four finalists, the photo with the most “likes” will emerge as the High Point Photo of the Year.
Submission day for our next High Point Ireland Photo competition will be on 20th February 2018. This will be the first of the preliminary rounds in the 2018 High Point Photo of the Year awards competition, but feel free to take part just for fun.
